From Steamboat Pilot, Nov. 1923: "Jefferson was engaged in the practice of medicine in Steamboat Springs , before entering political life . For several terms he served as senator from this district in the legislature , and he was then register of the State Land board . Under President Wilson he was minister to Nicaragua , and shortly after his return from that country last year he became candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor .
