Steamboat Harness & Shoe Shop
c.1920s
Black and white photo of the Steamboat Harness & Shoe Shop (later called Harwig Saddlery) at 911 Lincoln Ave. According to Steamboat Pilot, 1967, Charles Harwig purchased the building from Kemmery & Armstrong in 1918. The building was constructed in 1889 from red spruce trees cut from Gun Creek. Charles' son, Atwood and wife Katherine took over the saddle and shoe shop in 1936 when Charles passed away. Myers Liquor store is located next door. According to the Steamboat Pilot, the Harwig family commissioned the iconic cowboy to be painted between the two windows around 1951. Scan only, photo returned to donor.
